    Treasure Hunting!

    Treasure Hunting!

On those dark and icy days of deep winter, the next best thing to a good book, cat on the lap and a cozy fireplace is a day of treasure hunting! I've had a marvelous time this winter scouring the antique malls, resale shops and markets for the most unique and lovely items to breathe new life into.

Designing jewelry is wonderful, but reworking and refinishing vintage materials is particularly rewarding. Plus, who doesn't love the thrill of discovery!

My current obsession is with miniature folding pocket knives called "pen knives." These little beauties get their name from their original function: cutting and sharpening a quills to make a dip-pen nibs. They were essential accouterments for any gentleman's pocket watch chain or lady's watch fob or chatelaine.

They're a little tricky to find, but I've been hunting diligently all winter and have been able to compile a lovely collection of these wonderful little pen knives.

This week I'll be cleaning them all up, sharpening and oiling their little blades and turning them into one of a kind, wearable beauties!

They do take some time to photograph and list but be sure to check back next week, they'll be available here in the shop, in my One of a Kind online shop, and in my Etsy shop.

Don't wait too long if you see one that you love- they're absolutely one of a kind and when they're gone, they're gone!

The photos of me in my studio were taken by the fabulous Edwin Locke - and yes, I do have and emerald green wall :)
